Cambridge's proposed 100% Affordable Housing Overlay has just three key elements:

  • Slightly increase the size of buildings allowed in residential areas citywide. -- allowing 4 story buildings throughout residential districts.
  • Allow taller housing developments (up to 7 stories) along commercial corridors
  • Change review process to eliminate costly citizen lawsuits which have been used to delay housing construction.

What would an affordable housing development built under the Affordable Housing Overlay look like? Regardless of whether it's in Cambridgeport or on Fayerweather Street in West Cambridge, it would mostly look like... Cambridge.
